Bobcat causes power outage in western Kansas…and other headlines: July 13, 2017

Crews responding to a power outage near Lakin quickly find the cause – a bobcat had climbed up the pole and gotten itself electrocuted. Workers removed the carcass and did the work to get the electric service back on. They also let the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism know.
The Cowley County sheriff says a man who was the subject of a search after a mobile home fire has been found dead. A deputy found the body while doing a routine check of property where a mobile home was destroyed by fire. It appears that man shot himself.
Federal officials are no longer requiring Kansas to file bi-weekly reports on the backlog of applicants for the state’s Medicaid program. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment was notified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid that the state can discontinue the reports it has been sending since early 2006. At the time, Kansas had more than 7,000 backlogged applications that had been pending for more than 45 days for KanCare.
A man from Great Bend, in the hospital after blowing a tire south of WaKeeney, losing control and running into a ditch off 283. He did have a seatbelt on. Nobody else hurt.
The Ellis Railroad Museum is asking for donations as it looks to fix its BK&E miniature train. A number of windows were broken out and someone had put debris  under the cars, causing the train to derail. The museum president says it could take $5,000 to fix. Police are looking into it.
A woman from Missouri gets her tiny house back after thieves stole it and took it across the state line to Pittsburg. Police have not made any arrests in the case, but the tiny house has been returned. That woman was using it as a clothing boutique, not actually living there.
