Blowing dust fueled by high winds caused a fatal pile-up of 11 cars/trucks on Highway 83 near Rexford Thursday afternoon. At the time of the accident, about 2:00PM (Central), there were reports of “blackout conditions,” or zero visibility due to the blowing dust.

Those killed in the accident were 51-year-old Leonard Scott Breeden of Colby, 57-year-old James Ocle Perrott of Perryton, Texas and 66-year-old Jerold L. Lamb of Florissant, Colorado. Several others were transported to area hospitals.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation and clean-up continues this morning.
