‘Big Boy’ Makes Stop in Oakley

OAKLEY, Kan. — Union Pacific Railroad’s famous steam engine “Big Boy” made a pit stop in Oakley today.

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad has sent its historic Big Boy steam locomotive No. 4014 on a trip through the U.P’s system of railways across the country.

Friday, the locomotive made stops in Hays, Ellis, Quinter, and Oakley before stopping in Sharon Springs for the evening. The steam engine is scheduled to depart Sharon Springs at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, heading west to Kit Carson, Hugo, and Limon, Colorado.
