Asphalt Scam Alert

From Detective Jim Hughes,  Saline County Sheriff’s Office:

“Law enforcement reports from Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas have revealed a scam being performed by travelling asphalt workers driving a silver Dodge Ram truck with an Oklahoma license plate.  Reports show the traveling works are currently working in Ottawa, Saline, and Riley Kansas.

Reports indicate workers will approach elderly and/or residents in rural areas wanting to perform asphalt work on their driveway or property.   The asphalt may be laid, however, the sealant will not be applied, and the workers will charge for a complete job.  Other accounts indicate the workers will perform part of or the entire job, but will charge more than the agreed price.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office urges caution when entering into an agreement with unknown persons and if there is suspected suspicious activity; call the Sheriff’s Office, 785-826-6500. ”
