Oakley, Hoxie and Wallace County all picked up victories this weekend to advance in their respective classifications of the KSHSAA Playoffs.
Friday night the Oakley Plainsmen (8-1) defense stifled a high-powered Elkhart offensive attack, 42-7, at Irwin Field in Oakley. The win moves Oakley into the Sectional Round of the Class 2-1A bracket where they will meet up with LaCrosse (10-0). The Leopards also won easily, beating Plainville 41-14. Hoxie also faced a potent offense in their Regional matchup with Greensburg-Kiowa County Saturday. Much like the Plainsmen, the Indians used a stellar defensive effort to shut down their opponents, winning 38-6 at home and improving to 10-1 on the season. Hoxie moves on to the Sub-State round of the 8-man/D-I bracket and will face undefeated Hodgeman County in Jetmore on Friday.
In 8-man/D-II, the Wallace County Wildcats were on the road at Dighton Saturday. Wallace County improved to 11-0 with a 51-6 drubbing of the Hornets. This sets up a battle of “unbeatens” in the Sub-State round with the Wildcats hosting Beloit-St Johns/Tipton who edged Victoria 22-16.
