Anti-Common Core Bill Gets Hearing

The Education Committee in the state House holds a hearing on a bill that would block Common Core education standards in Kansas. 44 states already use Common Core, but critics argue it’s inflexible and takes decision-making away from local schools. The committee chair says there’s increasing opposition in the state to the standards, while another member of the committee worries blocking the standards could have unintended consequences like taking away advanced placement courses.
