…Brad Richmond, representing Hot Country 97.9 (KWGB-FM)!
For the 4th consecutive year, the State Finals of the Country Showdown talent search was hosted by the Northwest Kansas District Free Fair in Goodland.
On a beautiful evening, in front of a large crowd on the midway, 5 contestants competed for $1000 cash and the opportunity to advance to the Southwest Regional in Raton, New Mexico in October. The 5 singers had earned a spot in the Kansas State Finals by winning their respective “local” competitions across the Sunflower State.
Brad Richmond, Burlington Colorado, bested the field, in what Country Showdown Mike Newton called one of the closest competitions since the show has been held in Goodland. Richmond performed an original song, followed by a cover of The Eagles’ song “Desperado.” He was representing Rocking M Media station KWGB-FM after winning the Local Competition the previous week at the Thomas County Fair in Colby.
Dean Graber with Bankwest of Kansas presented Brad with his $1000 check after he was announced the winner.
The Country Showdown is celebrating it’s 34th year as America’s largest country music talent search. It has turned out some of the biggest names in the genre, including: Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Martina McBride and many others. There are four levels of the competition: Local, State, Regional and National. The National Finals are held at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee in January, 2016.
