(Dickinson County, Kan.)

A farming accident Wednesday evening has claimed the life of a five-year-old girl from Dickinson County.

According to Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman, young Brooklyn Lee Debenham was riding in the cab of a combine with her father, Brian, cutting soybeans. Debenham told authorities that they hit a bump and his daughter fell forward through the front window into the machine.

Emergency crews were immediately dispatched to a bean field near 3400 Avenue and Key Road yesterday around 5 p.m. Hoffman said the bump mentioned in the father’s statement to authorities has not been confirmed.

The accident occurred about 10 miles northeast of Abilene.
