ATWOOD, NORTON & OBERLIN, KS — Area golfers across three separate classifications competed yesterday for a chance to go go their respected state tournaments in the coming weeks.
At the 3A regional in Norton: Colby & Goodland as teams did not qualify, placing 3rd & 4th respectively. But Colby’s Jason Kranawitter shot a ten-over 80 to tie for 5th and qualify as did Goodland’s Ryan Lalicker, who placed 11th shooting an 18-over 88. Cowboys Garin Ihrig won the Norton regional with a two-over 72 to quailify for the second consecutive year.
At the 2A regional in Oberlin, the Hoxie golf team continued to dominate placing five of their six golfers inside the top-20 led by Easton Slipke who shot a nine-0ver 81 to place 3rd as the Indians took 2nd as team with a score of 340. Just two strokes behind regional champ Plainville. Wakeeney-Trego’s Dalton Mai placed 1st with a five-under 67. Decatur Community’s Kel Grafel & Braden Beagley also qualified individually, shooting an 85 & 87 respectively.
And at the 1A regional in Atwood, both Rawlins County (1st) and Wallace County (2nd) squads qualified for state. RCHS was led by Braden Leitner who placed 2nd with an 85 while Wallace County was led by Chandler Van Allen who shot an 87 to tie for 4th. Other area individuals who are headed to state is Wheatland-Grinnell’s Wyatt Mong and Greeley County’s Evan Crotinger & Jose Chavez. Stockton’s Brady Beougher ran away with the individual title shooting an even, 72.
State Tournament’s are scheduled for May 21st. 3A is in Seneca at Spring Creek GC. 2A is hosted by Crestwood CC in Pittsburg while 1A is in Dodge City at Mariah Hill GC.
