Four teams and six individual golfers qualified for the state golf tournaments on Monday, May 17th.
Despite most of western Kansas getting substantial rains the three area regional tournaments were not impacted by the precipitation.
The 3A regional took place at the Cimarron Golf Club. Colby HS came in second as a team qualifying their entire squad for state. Eagle senior Jaren Rush led the Eagles with a 13-over 85 to place 6th. Colby had all five of their golfer finish inside the top 16 with four of them finishing inside the top 11.
The only other 3A area golfer to qualify was Goodland senior Brennan Brumbaugh who took 5th with a 12-over 84. Cimarron was the regional champ.
The 3A State Tourney will take place at the Hesston Golf Course.
The 2A regional was held at Prairie Pines Golf Course in Johnson and two teams qualified for state in Hoxie & Oakley. Oakley, who came in 3rd, was led by Ian Fink who placed third individually with a seven-over 77. Corbin Bockwinkel shot an 84 to also place inside the top ten.
Hoxie came in second as a team and had four golfers place inside the top 20. Aston Dowell led HHS with a ten-over 80 to come in fourth. Teammate Brady Jones shot an 84 to tie fo 7th and be the only other top 10 finisher for the Indians. Ellis was the regional champ.
The 2A State Tournament will take place at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
The most golfers to qualify for state were at the 1A regional at the Atwood County Club. The hometown Buffaloes ran away with the regional title shooting a 319, 98 strokes better than second place Ness City. Issac Domsch led Rawlins County and won the regional with a three over 75. Teammates Kendrick Woody, Reagan Bowles, Travis Chvatal & Alex Paz all finished inside the top ten standings.
Other area 1A qualifiers were Decatur Community’s Spencer Wishon, Greeley County’s Cade Mangan, St. Francis’ Jordan Smull & Wheatland-Grinnell’s Wendel Mong & Trey Vincent. Wishon took 2nd. Mangan 5th & Smull came in 8th. Mong & Vincent came in just outside the top-ten in 11th & 12th respectably.
1A State Tournament will take place at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course
All state tournaments are set to take place on May 24th & 25th.
