
The Sherman County Sherif’s Office announced via its Facebook page that Tri-state area law enforcement has engaged in two high speed chases in the first two days of 2014.
Police announced New Years Day that multiple deputies chased a vehicle to Edson. The high speed chase ended off of the highway exchange after the suspect crashed his vehicle and fled the scene.
Sherman County Sheriff’s Office released the following update when they identified the suspect:
“The suspect from last nights chase that ended in Edson has been identified as Walter R. Gariffo DOB 11-4-1987. He is 5-11 170 PDS. Walter is a local Colby resident and now has a warrant issued for his arrest.. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Authorities confirmed the capturing of Gariffo around 4 p.m. mountain time.
After an eventful start to the new year, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office announced another high speed chase at 2 p.m. mountain time today near the Sherman/Thomas County border:
“Deputy’s assisted in yet another high speed chase on the eastern half of the county. Deputy’s were ready with spike strips however the chased vehicle exited through the barbed wire fence just east of Brewster. Two suspects are now in custody in THCO.”
