
A car of five people, all 21 years of age or younger, rolled out of control Sunday at 1:30 am 2.1 miles west of Ellis and resulted in the death of a 20-year-old passenger.
Ryan Schrant of Wakeeney was not wearing his seat belt at the time the car lost control. The vehicle, driven by Dustin Zahn, 20, of Quinter, was westbound on Old 40 road near the Trego/Ellis County line when it went into the south ditch and rolled 1 and 3/4 times before coming to a rest.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, Zahn was driving, 20-year-old Rachael Monteil (Odessa, Missouri) was in the front seat; 20-year-old Kristian Tuttle (Wakeeney) was in the back seat driver side; 21-year-old Deleon Stephen (Aurora, Colorado) was in the back middle seat; and Schrant was in the back seat passenger side.
Of the five, everyone was wearing their seat belt except for Tuttle and Schrant. Tuttle, Monteil, Zahn, and Stephen were taken to Hays Medical Center for possible injuries.
