(A.P.) 20-year-old Stathis Kirkpatrick was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for the murder of 14-year-old Kailee Clapp from McCook, NE.
Investigations show that in 2011 Kirkpatrick stabbed Kailee and burned the teen girl’s body.
Kirkpatrick spent months getting mentally well enough to face a trial which was set to begin in October. He originally planned to enter an “insanity” plea.
By September Stathis changed his tune, entering a plea of “no contest” to the first-degree, premeditated murder charge.
Texts read by investigators show an exchange between the two teens agreeing to meet in the alley behind Kailee’s house in the early morning hours of January 21st 2011.
After he lied to police about where he’d been officials found blood on Kirkpatrick’s belongings and Kailee’s burned body with stab marks on her face in a nearby cemetery.
