17-year-old and 12-year-old from Ottawa killed in I-70 crash

John Smith Lewis, 17, and Alexis Woolsoncroft, 12, were killed in Trego County Monday afternoon when their car went out of control on Interstate 70.

 

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, Lewis was traveling eastbound on I-70 when his car crossed the center median and entered the westbound lanes. The car struck a semi and hit another car before coming to a rest in the median.

The third passenger in Smith’s vehicle, 17-year-old Alejandra Gutierrez-Pino, was injured and taken to Hays Medical Center with injuries.

 

Two others in the other vehicles involved were also treated for injuries.

 

KHP troopers did not specify what caused the vehicle to enter into oncoming traffic.
