BELOIT, KS — Colby, Goodland as well as other 3A schools competed at Beloit for an opportunity to win a regional title and head to state. When all was done a combined 16 events from Colby & Goodland will be headed to the state track meet next week. Of those 16 events, four of them, all from Colby, were regional champions.
On the girls side: Colby placed 6th with five events placing. Lara Murdock had a great day winning the mile and placing 2nd in the 800. Colby’s 4×100 relay team placed 4th. Their 4×400 relay team won the regional and their 4×800 relay team placed 2nd. Goodland placed 11th and had three events qualify. Kiersten Kent placed 4th in the 400. Mikayla Biermann placed 3rd in the two mile and Elle McDaniel took 3rd as well in the Javelin.
As for the boys: Goodland didn’t have anyone place inside the top four and qualify for state and only scored 4 total points tying for 13th place. Colby on the on the other hand had eight athletes qualify in six events. Jordan Schippers qualified in the 100 & the 200. Calvin Stapp also qualified in the 100 meter dash. Bryson Metcalf placed 2nd in the 800 to qualify. Aaron Kurth placed 3rd and Xavier Slaven placed 4th in the shot put to make it to state. Colby also had their 4×400 & 4×100 relay teams placed 2nd qualifying them for state.
Kansas State Track & Field Championships will be held at Cessna Stadium in Wichita next Friday and Saturday.
