GOODLAND, KS — As the 2019 fall sports season gets ready to get rolling Goodland Cross Country Head Coach Jake Stout is hoping he and his program are able to do something that they haven’t done in some time.
Stout, who is in his third season at the helm Goodland XC, will finally have big enough numbers on the boys side to compete for the boys varsity team thanks to a good number of freshmen.
“I’m pretty excited” said Stout. “I got ten high school boys, a lot of them I brought up from the junior high program.
It was a good offseason for the program as they spent time running, lifting in the weight room and going to running camps. And because of that hard work Stout thinks they could do something they have never done in his time as head coach.
“I’m pretty excited, I have two kids that have a legit chance of qualifying for state and I haven’t been to state for cross country yet,” said Stout.
Senior Trent Coon & Freshman Noah Schears are the top two boys runners. There are only three girls on the team this year, not enough to score as team.
Goodland begins the year at home on Thursday the fifth.
